In aerobatic flying, precision and pilot skills go hand in hand with reliable onboard hardware – especially in RC planes with combustion engines. One outstanding example is the Extra NG from Pilot RC, boasting a 2.3-meter wingspan and powered by a fuel engine.
To build a clean and durable internal layout, all mounts for the battery, receiver, gyro, and GPS sensor were custom-designed and 3D printed using GreenTEC Pro and GreenTEC Pro CF. These high-performance materials are perfectly suited for aerobatic model airplanes due to their:
- High impact resistance: Absorbs vibrations and mechanical stress during flight.
- Excellent heat resistance: Withstands the heat generated inside the fuselage.
- Mechanical strength and durability: Securely holds onboard electronics.
- Precision printing: Enables efficient, lightweight part integration.
The entire setup was assembled step-by-step using 3D printed parts, allowing for a clean installation and optimal use of space in the aircraft. This approach not only enhances safety and performance but also showcases what’s possible when 3D printing meets RC aviation.
