Career At Extrudr

OUR NEW HEADQUARTERS: BUILT FOR THE FUTURE

Extrudr develops and produces high-performance 3D
printing filaments for industrial and creative professionals across Europe and
beyond. Since 2014, we have focused on combining advanced material science with
sustainable practices, offering bio-based, engineering-grade and specialty
materials tailored to the highest quality standards. Our customers span both
B2C and B2B sectors, ranging from 3D printing hobbyists to industrial users in
prototyping, robotics, automotive, aerospace, and education, all relying on our
filaments for precision, durability, and innovation. As the industry and its
demands have grown, so have we, continuously investing in technology, processes
and now our new headquarters.

The decision to build our own headquarters was driven
by one core goal: independence.

Throughout the years, Extrudr has relocated three
times, always running out of capacity, and this round it was time for something
permanent. We wanted a space that wouldn’t limit our ideas but enable them. In
the past, upgrades to systems or machinery meant complex workarounds. The
infrastructure simply couldn’t support the level of specialization we needed.
And growing production meant making compromises.

That changed with the new building. We created a space
tailored to our needs – both technically and culturally:

From the beginning, the goal wasn’t just to build
something modern, but something responsible – both environmentally and
operationally.

Altogether, the building brings more than 10,000 m2
under one roof: about 6,000 m2 for production, with the rest divided
between tooling, development, logistics and administration.

Building on soft ground (peat/turf) wasn’t easy. But
with a 30m deep foundation and smart structural design, we were able to go vertically
rather than to spread out. This compact, connected layout improves
collaboration and keeps teams close, while leaving space on the surrounding
land for future expansion.&nbsp; 

Plastic processing generates heat, and we’ve made sure
to put it to good use. A heat recovery system collects waste heat from
compressors and cooling units and redistributes it efficiently throughout the
building. This reduces energy usage and creates a stable climate.

The ventilation system keeps air quality and humidity
consistent, supporting both human comfort and production precision. Our
building envelope exceeds energy requirements and is supported by automated
shading and a layered green roof, which reduces temperature spikes and
regulates rainwater naturally.

We also made a conscious effort to work with regional
suppliers. Most materials came from Vorarlberg and southern Germany, and
construction was handled by local partners. This reduced transport emissions,
ensured short coordination loops, and supported the long-term quality we care
about.

Our team spends a lot of time here. That’s why we
focused on building a workplace that feels good – both in atmosphere and
functionality.

Large horizontal windows run the length of the
building, bringing daylight into every workspace. Even at the center of the
structure, the inner courtyard adds light and openness.

Ergonomic, height-adjustable desks and acoustic
flooring create a calm and focused atmosphere. Lighting systems are designed
for softness and visual comfort. We deliberately avoided design trends and
focused on timeless, neutral materials that allow flexibility and personalization.

The indoor climate is fully controlled. Instead of
open windows, fresh, pre-conditioned air flows continuously through the
building, keeping temperatures consistent. This supports well-being – and the
performance of sensitive materials.

A modular layout allows us to easily adapt workspaces
over time. There are also thoughtful details that improve everyday life:
electric car and bike charging stations, covered bicycle parking, showers in
production areas, and informal kitchens and meeting zones for spontaneous
collaboration.

The new building finally gives us the space and
systems to automate more of what matters. We’re already integrating smart
logistics processes, including automated labeling, folding, and packaging.

Further downstream, we’re expanding automation in
filament spooling and pallet preparation. And because the building
infrastructure is modular, we can adjust and expand these systems over time.

The design also includes built-in resilience. Backup
systems and flexible layouts help us respond quickly, stay consistent, and grow
sustainably as a team and as a company.

Choosing Lustenau was a conscious decision. The town stands
at the intersection of innovation and craftsmanship. It’s one of the few places
in the region where, from textiles to technology, industry still has deep
roots.

The local government actively supports growing companies
such as Extrudr. That made a real difference. This support
is essential, but even more important is the mindset here: practical, focused,
forward-thinking.

Vorarlberg is where we started. It’s where our team members
live, and where our ideas were born. Staying here was about more than
logistics. It was about staying true to who we are.

Moving into our new headquarters marked more than the
end of a construction project, it marked the beginning of a new chapter.
Transitioning into space while finishing touches were still being made wasn’t
easy, but it underscored something essential about who we are - adaptable,
driven, and committed to progress, even under pressure.

This building is not just an upgrade in square meters
or technology. It’s a physical expression of our philosophy: to create a better
future through innovation, quality, and responsibility. It reflects our belief
that to lead in a fast-evolving industry like 3D printing, we must build with
intention, not only for today’s needs but for the possibilities of tomorrow.

As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: pushing
boundaries in materials science, refining our processes through smart
automation, and crafting solutions that empower our customers, from makers to
manufacturers - to bring their boldest ideas to life.

Our new headquarters gives us the foundation to grow
not just bigger, but smarter and more sustainable. It enables deeper
collaboration, more agility in development, and the freedom to rethink what’s
possible – from how we produce to how we connect with the global community of
creators, engineers, and innovators.

We're just getting started. With this space as our
launchpad, we’re ready to explore new frontiers in additive manufacturing, and
to help shape the next generation of 3D printing.

This building isn’t just an upgrade. It’s a
