How Print Settings Affect the Finish

The filament sets the basic look, but your slicer settings still change it. With many materials, printing hotter makes the surface a little shinier, and printing cooler makes it duller. So a matte filament printed at the top of its temperature range can lose some of its matte effect. The same idea works the other way: if a glossy print looks flatter than expected, try a few degrees more.

Layer height matters too. Thinner layers make lines less visible on any finish. That makes the biggest difference on glossy prints, where the light picks out every step. Print speed and cooling play a smaller role, but it's worth testing both if the surface looks uneven.
